Anyway, here in the Sunshine State, when you sell a car, or otherwise cancel the insurance on it, you need to turn in the tag to DOT to demonstrate the car is no longer in your custody. Today, I headed over to the Home of the World's Most Famous Beach to turn in that trusty old license plate.
Heading back, over the Main Street low drawbridge, out in front of the Boot Hill Saloon across the street from a cemetary, I spotted this:
It is a 1985 Maserati Quattrosporte. You might remember I blogged about them here and here.
Sometimes, I will see something that might qualify for a What I Saw Today entry and will hesitate in stopping, sometimes not stopping at all. This time, from the second I saw it, I knew I was stopping and you would be seeing this today.
While I was shooting these images, the owner, Guido, came out of the Boot Hill Saloon and we got to talking.
It turns out he is from in the Northeast and had seen this car during his many trips back and forth. Then it was faded out and sporting some pretty garrish wire rims, sitting on a repair shop's lot.
One time he stopped and got to talking with the garage owner and ultimately bought this classic for $6,000, with the stock wheels. He told the garage owner to keep the tacky wire ones, after all, Stock Rocks.
Guido jumped in this Maserati and drove it down to Daytona Beach, similar to me in the olestationbus.
At first I thought it was a Bi-Turbo, but it was too big. Definitely nicer than any Bi-Turbo, that is for sure.
Guido mentioned he has Mark, over at Mark's Garage work on it.
I knew of that place, remembered he had some stuff in his lot I almost used as a What I Saw Today entry. So I headed over for the following images.
While having some pretty run of the mill stuff in his yard,
He also has some cool stuff like this mid 80's Rabbit Pickup, VW's alternative to this.
He also has a malaise era Camaro and an early 70's Maverick.
Out back is even more cool stuff, like this old COE body on the roof of those containers. I would love to know what is in them.
Also, an old Travco Motorhome.
I saw one a while back for sale, $4,500, 1/2 way between Ocala and Ormond Beach. Next time I went by it was gone. Cool old coach.
There are a total of three of these old Opel GT's.
All of them just rusting away. What a shame.
There is this mid 50's Ford Panel truck.
This could, possibly, be a project for thejeepjunkie at some point.
And one project I want nothing to do with is this old Peugeot sedan.

When I was 19 and getting ready to buy my first new car I so wanted an Opal GT but I somehow ended up with a new 1973 green Chevelle.
And it is a good thing she did end up with the new 1973 green Chevelle. Otherwise we might have never had the pleasure of selling to Longrooffan for princely sum of $250.00.
The Chevelle pulled trailers a lot better than any Opel GT could have!
I got dibs on the VW truck. I've wanted one for some time now, just don't have the cash, of course.
By the way, some of those Opels had the same engine my old Chevy LUV had, an Isuzu that was durable but weak.
