Correction Corner?

Well, I have been wrong about makes and models of old cars before.

I just did a blog about some hoon over in Finland doing him some drifting.

I got this link from Hemmings and commented that I understood it to be a '52 Mercury (see the comments section of this link).

Well, over at Jalopnik, they also have a link and one of the commenters there mention it is a Pontiac.

Where, oh where, can Kit Foster be?

But knowing these dudes in a land far far away are hooning out a 50+ year old car made here in these good ole United States lets me

Correction Corner

A couple posts ago, I responded to thehorsefarmer's post about cars seen in a row down at Jerry's Auto Sales in Russellville, Arkansas.

Well, as it turns out, someone who knows Runs With The Big Dogs in the old car world, while the longrooffan sits on the porch, and I didn't even know he knew who the longrooffan was, and apparently Counts Along With Me, commented on that post.

Um, I think the Ford pickup may be the only "determination." I make them to be, front to back: 1956 Pontiac Chieftain; 1940 Cadillac; 1956 Ford Customline Victoria; 1959-65 Volvo 544; 1953-59 Mercedes 220; 1964 (or '66) Chev pickup; 1964-66 Chev pickup. And, of course a John Deere tractor. I'm afraid your "Rolls" is a 1946-52 Mark VI Bentley.

I stand corrected.

My only defense, when reviewing my images of my visit to Jerry's, I shot an image of that Bentley's hood ornament and realized my error but was unsure as to where to post that correction. So here is the image of that Bentley's hood ornament.


Now I can tell you this.

I spent a couple hours google imaging to, ultimately incorrectly, determine the year and make of some of those cars. I am confident Kit Foster knew what they were on his initial sight of them in that image.

Well, today, By The Numbers got a shout out from Hemmings Blog and received comments from Kit Foster. My day, h*ll, my week is made!

Correction Corner

These kids today. I got to see my daughter, Jessica, today, more on that later or you may have just read about our visit.

She has been keeping up with my blog and asked me what the Maserati Quadrosport, I referenced here , is. I told her it is a high end sports sedan. She told me it was not, she googled it and got no results.

I was worried, am I not as much of a car nut as I thought. Was I foolishly trying to pass myself off as one, and everyone was laughing behind my back? I was in a total panic.

I mentioned this to the jeep junkie and he said I had better get my facts straight.

I came home and googled also.

I realized that I am still a car nut, but have a long way to knowing how to spell in Italian.

It is Quattroporte, not Quadrosport.

Jess, thanks for helping me keep my facts straight.

Correction Corner

So, here I am again, with, yet again, James, at 15, correcting this 48 year old man. James' and Ed's CJ5 is a 1966, not a 67, as I referred to here. James, thanks for keeping this old man straight, because, after all, it is by the numbers.

James and Ed just dropped by. My first visitors and James told me I will see alot of him this summer. It is nice to be near family.

James's school, here Beachside, had an award presentation and James just missed being in the National Honor Society. James told me, I guess I did something wrong, John-John. I told him to play it straight, you get to do a lot more stuff by being good because you are good, you get away with more and, also, your Mom will let you hang with me.

Anyway, for whatever reason, Ed hasn't shared this blog with him so I pulled it up and showed him the post on his and my visit to the pits at the Rolex24. He read this post while his Dad told me what I am going to be doing on our next project.

As James was reading this he peppered in, "I remember that brake job". "Yeah, that was you two sitting on that golf cart". It was fun.

But he pointed out a mistake I made, a big one.

It was not the Nissan pit stall, and they did not win class.

It was Mazda.

My apologies to everyone and, especially, to Mazda and its race team.
